Case study
A 600MW power station encountered a severe issue when its generator circuit breaker (GCB) enclosure became filled with rainwater during a series of storms.
The water caused a flashover, extensively damaging the resin insulators, leaving the equipment unsafe, unserviceable and in urgent need of repair.
We quickly drained the water and thoroughly cleaned the enclosure to assess the damage. Given the prolonged exposure to water, we recommended replacing all support insulators.
The circuit breaker and disconnector were removed and repaired and HV testing was conducted to ensure full functionality.
The circuit breaker was meticulously rebuilt and underwent rigorous testing to ensure full functionality.
This approach enabled the power station to resume operations safely and efficiently, restoring critical infrastructure and preventing further operational disruptions.
